I’m from Barcelona, sono una band-collettivo di quasi 30 elementi che con canzoni di puro pop (contenute in “Let Me Introduce You To My Friends”), ti riappacificano con l’universo e con chi hai intorno. Data l’impossibilità di intervistarli tutti quanti, abbiamo scambiato qualche parola con Emanuel Lundgren artefice de progetto e autore dei brani.

Quali sono i principali temi delle canzoni di ‘Let me introduce you to my friends”?
I temi principali sono cose del tipo salire sugli alberi, stare insieme, le piccole cose e le esperienze da bambino

Come si è formata la band…hai fatto una selezione apposita o li hai scovati tra amici e conoscenti?
Tutti I membri della band sono amici che frequentavo.. Ho fatto una specie di lista di persone e ho chiesto a quelli che incontravo di partecipare la progetto. Sulla lista originale ce ne erano circa 50. Sono contento di non aver chiesto a tutti di unirsi alla band.

Siete tutti musicisti o avete anche un’altra occupazione?
Nessuno di noi è musicista a tempo pieno. Abbiamo tutti un lavoro, studi e disoccupazioni varie di cui occuparci.

Durante la performance sul palco del Primavera Sound, il vostro entusiasmo era cosi trascinante da desiderare d essere sul palco con voi. Cosa è per voi la musica? L’ impressione è che facciate musica con l’intento di far cantare, sorridere, ballare…
Ho scritto le canzoni mentre ero follemente innamorato....in più in quel periodo era anche in vacanza. Questa situazione combinata con l’avere molto tempo a disposizione ha creato il mood che senti nelle canzoni. Non ho scritto le canzoni per far sentire la agente come mi sentivo io, ma proprio perché le ho scritte di getto esprimono le mie sensazioni positive di allora…

Sul palco del Primavera Sound, hai confessato di non essere mai stato a Barcellona prima di allora. Nonostante tutto, la gente di Barcellona, cantavano ‘We’re from Barcelona’, come se fosse un inno. Ti aspettavi tanto successo?
No, assolutamente no, non sapevo proprio cosa aspettarmi, ma i commenti sul nostro sito ci facevano presagire che a Barcellona stava per succedere qualcosa di buono. È fantastico che la gente a Barcellona abbia interagito con noi in quella maniera.

Come è suonare in una band così grande, immagino sia differente dal suonare in una band ‘regolare’…
Assolutamente si! E’ come essere in un grande party in un appartamento vagante. Non ci si annoia mai, c’è sempre qualcuno che parla, e qualcosa di nuovo da scoprire. Odio quando essere in una band diventa simile all’andare a lavorare. Questo è il mio modo di cercare la gioia, stando in una band e credo di averla trovata.

Quale musica vi piace ascoltare?
Ne ascolto moltissima. Qualsiasi cosa da Prince and Sly & the family Stone, a cose più rilassate come Tom Waits and Joni Mitchell. Quando sono stanco Sepultura or At the Gates sono la cura. I Cure sono invece il mio morbido cuscino quando sono triste, i Flaming Lips mi fanno sentire felice, gli Yo La Tengo sono come un compagno divertente and the Beatles il maestro.

Cosa ne pensi della musica in rete? Peer to peer, blog, my space che sembrano essere diventati la via più semplice ed efficace per creare hype intorno alle band.
E’ meraviglioso per chi scrive canzoni, avere una risposta immediate da tutto il mondo, assolutamente stupefacente. Sarà probabilmente l’unico modo di consumare musica nel futuro . Il cd è morto…

Progetti per il futuro?
Al momento sto scrivendo nuove canzoni, cercando di capire quali orizzonti musicale visiteremo per il prossimo album. Vorremmo visitare alcuni paesi europei il prossimo autunno, cominceremo con l’Inghilterra, Germania e Francia. Di settimana in settimana vedremo come va. Questa band è già sopravvissuta un anno in più di quello che mi aspettavo. All’inizio pensavo sarebbe solo stato un modo bello e divertente di passare le mie quattro settimane di vacanza.

What are the main topics of the songs of the album ‘Let me introduce my friends?
The main topics are things like climbing trees, coming together, small things and child experiences

How did you put all the members of the band together…did you make any selection or found them among your friends or acquaintances?
All the people in the band are friends that I hang out with. I kind of made a list of people and asked the ones I stumbled upon. On the original list there were 50 people. I'm glad I didn't ask all of them to join.

All of you are just musicians or do you have another occupation as well?
No one of us are full time musicians. We all have jobs, schools and unemployment to deal with.

During your performance on the stage of Primavera Sound, your enthusiasm makes me want to get up on the stage with you…do you accept new members in your band?...I’m kidding… actually what is for you the music? Listening to your sound the first impression is that you compose your songs to give joy, desire of singing, dancing, smiling…
I wrote the songs as I was madly in love... and combined with that I was on vacation. That feeling of release combined with a lot of free time created the expression you hear in the songs. I didn't write them to make people feel the way I feel, I just wrote them very quickly to express the way I feel.

On the stage of Primavera Sound, you declared that you’ve never been in Barcelona before, but anyway the people in Barcelona are enthusiastic to sing ‘We’re from Barcelona’ as an hymn. Did you expected this success?
No, not at all. I was even afraid of rotten toatoes. I didn't know what to expect at all, bit the comments on our website hinted that something nice was going on in Barcelona. It's fantastic that the people in Barcelona can relate to it!

What do you feel to be and play in a such big band, I guess is really different than playing in a ‘regular’ band…
Absolutely! It's like a big travelling apartment party. You never get bored, there's always someone to talk to and something new to find out. I hate it when a band feels like going to work... it's supposed to be fun, you know. This is my way to try to find the joy of being in a band again. And I think I've found it.

What music do you like to listen? Something that have to do with the Queen as well?
I listen to a lot of music. Everything from Prince and Sly & the family Stone to slower things as Tom Waits and Joni Mitchell. Sometimes when I'm tired Sepultura or At the Gates is the cure. The Cure is by the way a nice pillow when I'm feeling sad and Flaming Lips always makes me happy. Yo La Tengo is like a fun buddy and the Beatles is the teacher.

What do you think about the music on the as peer to peer, blogs, myspace, that recently seem to be the best way to create the hype around bands?
It's fantastic for a song writer to get immediate respons from all over the world, absolutely amazing. This will be the only way we will consume music in the future. The Compact Disc is dead. R.I.P.

Plans for the future…tours, new album?
I'm writing new songs right now., trying to see what musical landscape we will visit for the next album. We're trying to visit some European countrys this fall, we'll start with England, Germany and France! I just take it week for week to see where things are going. This band has already survuved a year longer than I expected. I only thought it would be a nice way to spend my four week vacation!
